Our History

55 Years of Filtration Excellence

1969

Founded in Pennsylvania

Filtech Inc. was founded as a corporation in the state of Pennsylvania as a manufacturer's representative and distribution organization. The company began serving commercial, industrial, governmental, and institutional users with air and gas filters, covering applications from HVAC filtration to specialized cleanrooms, environmental containment, and filtration for the microelectronics, nuclear, and biomedical fields.

1974

First Owned Facility — East Pittsburgh

A 6,200 sq. ft. building in East Pittsburgh was acquired, integrating office and warehouse operations for the first time. With expanded space, product coverage grew to include packaged cleanrooms, laminar flow cabinets, down-flow filter modules, biological safety cabinets, and HEPA filter systems. Wet benches for semi-conductor applications and other laboratory equipment were also added to the lineup.

1970s

Expanding Into Testing & Certification

The late 1970s saw Filtech widen its capabilities into service. This included testing and certification of cleanrooms, laminar flow devices, biological safety cabinets, and HEPA filter replacements. Associated functions such as testing for room air change rates, particle counts, and indoor air quality surveys were also initiated — the foundation of what would become the Filtech Testing Division.

1984

Relocating to West Homestead

Because of rapid growth in the distribution segment of filtration products, Filtech relocated to a larger 25,000 sq. ft. facility in West Homestead — a suburb of Pittsburgh. The move enabled the company to better serve its growing customer base and support increased inventory across its expanding product lines.

1989

20th Anniversary — 17 Employees

By its 20th anniversary, Filtech Inc. had grown to 17 employees. Strategic planning during this period led to the decision to concentrate efforts as a "total filter source" for air, gas, and liquid filtration products — resulting in the discontinuance of laboratory equipment marketing to focus on the core filtration business, particularly industrial filtration applications.

1999

Second Building — 34 Employees

A second building was purchased in West Homestead, adding an additional 8,200 sq. ft. of warehouse space. In its 31st year of business, employment had reached 34 employees. Marketing changes, decentralization, and reorganization of management responsibilities were also initiated to better service customers and pursue new opportunities in the filtration markets.

2007

In-House Filter Manufacturing Begins

Steps were taken to shorten lead times for special size filters. In-house manufacturing of special size filters was started, giving Filtech greater control over quality and delivery for custom filter requirements — a significant capability expansion that distinguished the company from competitors relying solely on third-party suppliers.

2012

Filtech Delivery Service Launches

Filtech launched its own delivery service, giving the company direct control over the last mile of product delivery to customers throughout the region. This investment in logistics capability was a direct extension of the commitment to reliability and customer service that had defined Filtech since its founding.

2013

Fleet Expansion & Manufacturing Automation

A second 24-foot box truck was added to the delivery fleet to meet growing demand. In the same year, equipment was purchased to automate portions of the filter manufacturing process, improving throughput and consistency for custom-sized filters produced in-house.

2014

Office Expansion & Renovation

Filtech's offices were updated and expanded to accommodate the company's continued growth. The renovation reflected the investment Filtech was making in its team and operations infrastructure — creating a more functional, professional environment to support an increasingly large and skilled workforce.

2015

41 Team Members Strong

By 2015, Filtech employment had grown to 41 team members — a more than doubling of the workforce since the company's 20th anniversary in 1989. The growth reflected sustained demand for Filtech's broad filtration expertise and the company's reputation for technical depth, reliable inventory, and responsive service across the Tri-State Area.

2021

Named a Best Place to Work

Filtech was voted one of the Best Places to Work by the Pittsburgh Business Times — a recognition driven by the people who know us best: our team. The award reflected the workplace culture Filtech has cultivated for decades, where employees are treated fairly, supported in their growth, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to the company's mission.

2023

50+ Team Members

Filtech crossed the 50-employee mark — another milestone in steady, sustained growth. The expanded team brought deeper technical expertise across every department, from sales and customer service to manufacturing, delivery, and the Testing Division, allowing Filtech to better serve the growing demand for filtration solutions throughout the region.

2025

New Home in Munhall & Best Place to Work — Again

Filtech moved to a new state-of-the-art 37,000 sq. ft. facility in Munhall, PA — continuing our legacy of growth just outside Pittsburgh. The new location provides expanded warehouse capacity, modernized operations, and the same dedicated team that has made Filtech the region's trusted filtration source for over 55 years. In the same year, Filtech was once again voted one of the Best Places to Work by the Pittsburgh Business Times — a second recognition that affirms the workplace culture our team continues to build together.
