Pig Detectors and Passage Indicators

Pig detectors confirm the passage of a pig at specific points along a pipeline. They are typically installed near launchers and receivers to verify successful launch and receipt, or at trouble areas such as tees, elbows, and wyes. Detectors can also be connected to PLCs to automate pipeline equipment like pumps, compressors, valves, and mixing tanks.

Intrusive vs. Non-Intrusive

Intrusive

Permanently mounted via threaded fitting or flange
Trigger probe extends into the pipe bore and is mechanically activated when a pig passes
Works with any pig type without special accessories
Bi-directional operation detects pigs traveling in either direction
Visual flag indicator and electrical switch output
Retrievable models available for maintenance without shutting down the line

Non-Intrusive

Attaches externally via saddle, strap, or banding
No permanent pipeline modification required
Requires the pig to be equipped with a magnet or transmitter for detection
Ideal for installations where hot tapping is not possible
LCD display, passage memory, and relay output options available
