Effective coalescing of fine oil mist, water, and hydrocarbon liquids
The Advantage of Conical Design
The JPEX Series conical shape provides a unique advantage for fine liquid coalescing: as gas flows from inside to outside, the expanding geometry progressively reduces velocity. This velocity reduction at the outer surface is critical—it allows coalesced droplets to grow larger and release cleanly without being re-entrained by high-velocity gas, ensuring maximum separation efficiency.
How Conical Coalescing Works
1
Gas Enters
Oil-laden gas enters the inside of the conical element at higher velocity.
2
Droplet Capture
Fine aerosols contact and adhere to micro-fiberglass fibers within the media.
3
Coalescence
Small droplets combine at fiber intersections, growing into larger drops.
4
Clean Release
Reduced velocity at outer surface allows large drops to release and drain.
Key Benefits
Velocity Reduction
Conical geometry naturally reduces gas velocity at the outlet surface, preventing droplet break-up and re-entrainment.
Fine Particle Capture
Ultra-fine micro-fiberglass media captures sub-micron liquid aerosols that cylindrical elements may miss.
Depth Filtration
Successively finer media layers provide progressive filtration for both particles and liquid coalescing.
Extended Surface Area
Conical shape provides more media surface area per unit length for improved capacity and efficiency.
Common Applications
Compressor Discharge
Remove lubricating oil aerosols from compressor discharge gas streams in pipeline and processing applications.
Natural Gas Processing
Final polishing of natural gas to remove trace liquids before metering or downstream processes.
Chemical Plants
Remove entrained liquids from process gas streams in chemical and petrochemical facilities.
Pipeline Compressor Stations
Protect downstream equipment and ensure gas quality at pipeline compressor stations.
Refinery Process Gas
Coalesce hydrocarbon liquids from various refinery gas streams.
Industrial Facilities
General industrial applications requiring fine liquid removal from compressed gas.
Media Options
JPEX Series elements are available in various grades of high-performance micro-fiberglass media, with fiber diameters ranging from less than 1 micrometer to 10 micrometers. Media grades can be selected based on your specific efficiency requirements, contaminant type, and pressure drop constraints.
