Light Intensity Test

The light intensity test is an optional assessment available upon request, designed to determine the light intensity on the work surface of the cabinet, measured in foot-candles (fc) or lux (lux). This test provides valuable insights into the lighting conditions within the cabinet, ensuring optimal working conditions in critical environments.

Precise Apparatus for Accurate Results

To conduct the light intensity test, Filtech utilizes a portable photoelectric illuminance meter, meeting stringent accuracy standards. This specialized meter is described in "The Lighting Handbook" and must adhere to the following criteria:

Accuracy within ±10%
Cosine and color correction for precise measurements
Calibration in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions

Methodology

The test procedure involves the following steps:

a) Background Lighting Measurement: With the cabinet lights turned off, the background lighting intensity is measured along the side-to-side centerline of the work tray in increments not exceeding 12 inches. Measurements commence 6 inches from the side walls, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the work surface.

b) Cabinet Light Measurement: Subsequently, with the cabinet lights and blower turned on, the light intensity within the cabinet is measured along the same side-to-side centerline of the work tray, following the same incremental pattern.

Acceptance Criteria

For the lighting intensity to meet the required standards, the following criteria must be satisfied:

The lighting intensities must average a minimum of 60 fc (foot-candles) or 650 lux (lux) on the work surface.
Individual readings must not fall below 40 fc (foot-candles) or 430 lux (lux) at any measured point, assuming that the background light levels average 10 ± 5 fc (foot-candles) or 110 ± 50 lux (lux) at the work surface.
