Ensuring Proper Airflow and Containment

At Filtech, our Smoke Test is a critical part of assessing the performance and safety of your biosafety cabinets. We utilize this test to ensure the proper airflow and containment within your cabinet, keeping your workspace free from contaminants.

Test Parameters

Our comprehensive Smoke Test evaluates multiple aspects of your biosafety cabinet's performance:

View Screen Retention Test

Objective: Passing a smoke source from one end of the cabinet to the other, along the centerline of the work surface, at a height of 4 inches above the top of the front access opening.
Indication: A smooth downward flow with no upward refluxing.

Work Opening Edge Retention Test

Objective: Passing a smoke source along the entire perimeter of the work opening edges, approximately 1½ inches outside the cabinet.
Indication: No smoke refluxing out of the cabinet once drawn in, and no smoke billowing over the work surface or penetrating onto it.

Sash Seal Test (For Cabinets with Sliding Sash)

Objective: Passing a smoke source up the inside of the window at the side channels seals and along the inside of the cabinet immediately below the wiper gasket.
Indication: No upward refluxing nor escape of smoke from the cabinet.

Exhaust Canopy Test

Objective: Using a smoke test inside exhaust canopies to ensure all the exhaust air is making its way into the duct and not refluxing back out into the room.
Indication: Proper exhaust airflow without any smoke refluxing into the room.
